چکیده

In the present work investigations on a potential use of activated carbon for the removal of Methylene Blue (MB) from wastewater are presented. Adsorption kinetics of methylene blue has been studied using reaction-based and diffusion-based models. Three kinetic models, namely, pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and the Elovich are analyzed at the temperature of 298 K for the reaction-based model. The kinetic studies showed that the data were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Intraparticle diffusion, external-film diffusion, and internal-pore diffusion models characterizing MB were obtained. The results suggested that the activated carbon has a high potential to be used as an effective adsorbent for methylene blue adsorption. Pseudo first-order, pseudo second-order and the Elovich models were employed to describe the desorption mechanism. The experimental results showed that the pseudo second-order equation is the best model. About 99% of activated carbon has been regenerated by desorption. keywords: activated carbon, adsorption, desorption, kinetic studies, methylene blue

Adsorption and desorption of methylene blue on porous carbon monoliths and nanocrystalline cellulose.

The dynamic batch adsorption of methylene blue (MB), a widely used and toxic dye, onto nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) and crushed powder of carbon monolith (CM) was investigated using the pseudo-first- and -second-order kinetics. CM outperformed NCC with a maximum capacity of 127 mg/g compared to 101 mg/g for NCC. The Langmuir isotherm model was applicable for describing the binding data for M...

Dye Adsorption on the Blends of Saffron Petals Powder with Activated Carbon: Response Surface Methodology

One of the famous dyes is methylene blue (MB) which is a symbol of hazardous dyes. In this research, methylene blue was adsorbed using the blends of saffron petals with activated carbon. Five independent variables involving pH (2-13), contact time (5-270 min), saffron petals powder dosage (0.1-10 g/l), initial concentration of methylene blue solution (20-300 ppm) and activated carbon dosage (0....

A Comparative Study for the Removal of Methylene Blue Dye from Aqueous Solution by Novel Activated Carbon Based Adsorbents

This study was conducted to assess the ability of the studied adsorbent, i.e. raw oak fruit hulls and the activated carbon prepared from oak fruit hull for removing the Methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. This study was conducted under various effective parameters, e.g., contact time, pH, MB concentration, adsorbent concentration. The optimum amount of each parameter was determined a...
